This fig and vanilla gin cocktail tastes as pretty as it looks!
Our November 2020 Gin of the Month, Pienaar & Son Orient Gin, is a vibrant symphony of bold citrus and spice flavours that encapsulate its remarkable home in Cape Town, South Africa.
Its bright notes orange and spice are the perfect match for the sweet, molasses-like flavour of fresh figs and the mellow fragrance of vanilla in this fantastic cocktail recipe. With a spritely touch of fresh lemon, a dash of Angostura Bitters to balance that sweetness, and all the fabulous fizz of a good tonic water, it’s one truly unforgettable tipple.
This recipe can work as a Highball (as it is in our November 2020 edition of GINNED! Magazine) or as a shorter Sling, like the one below. Both are delicious!
Fig & Vanilla Sling
Ingredients
50ml Pienaar & Son Orient Gin
15ml fig & vanilla syrup
5ml lemon juice
1 dash Angostura Bitters
Tonic water, to top up
Fig slices, to garnish
Method
For the fig and vanilla syrup: Combine 100ml of boiling hot water with 100g of caster sugar and stir until dissolved. Add three sliced figs and ½ tsp of vanilla extract. Leave to infuse overnight and strain when you are ready to use.
Add all your ingredients to a highball glass with ice and give it a quick stir.
