Famously the drink of choice of Mad Men’s Don Draper, the Old Fashioned is a cocktail traditionally made with Bourbon whisky, Bitters and a little sugar. It’s simple and utterly delicious. This version swaps the whisky for gin and adds a couple of extra mouthwatering flavours for you to enjoy.
Inspired by our March 2021 Gin of the Month, The River Test Distillery Chalkstream Gold, and its connection to the British countryside, Maria, our Master Mixologist, has aptly named this tasty tipple after one of our landscapes most mischievous furry critters, The Foxy Old Fashioned.
The Foxy Old Fashioned
This cocktail is inspired by the fantastic burnt-orange colour of foxes. It blends the rich juniper, herb and floral notes of gin with warm and zesty gingerbread liqueur. The Vanilla Syrup then adds a wonderfully mellow spice that’s complemented by the Angostura Bitters. Finished with a twist of lemon peel and a cherry, it’s a real treat.
This is a smooth, sweet cocktail, with a velvety mouthfeel. I recommend enjoying it after dinner – just when the foxes come out!

Ingredients
50ml The River Test Distillery Chalkstream Gold
10ml gingerbread liqueur
5ml Vanilla Syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Lemon twist, to garnish
Cherry, to garnish - optional
Method
Add all your ingredients to a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a rocks glass over ice and garnish.
