Swap vodka for gin in your Cosmopolitan for a fabulous new take on the classic cocktail!
Springing to worldwide fame back in 1998 thanks to its status as the fun, elegant drink of choice for Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda as they enjoyed, um, cocktails on the hit TV show Sex in the City, the Cosmopolitan has remained a popular staple for girls’ nights out for almost 20 years.
However, if your tastes have evolved over the years to take on a more gin-based dimension, we’ve got good news: you can swap the vodka out for gin in this cocktail recipe and your Cosmo will take on a whole new level of flavour! The second bit of good news? It’s incredibly easy to make at home!
So, grab your three best gin pals, strap on your most fabulous stilettos, dig out your prettiest cocktail glasses, and cue the jaunty piano music - just watch out for buses and puddles…
Gin Cosmopolitan
45ml gin
30ml triple sec
15ml freshly squeezed lime juice
30ml cranberry juice
Combine all ingredients in a shaker and shake vigorously. (Not got a shaker? Add your ingredients to a pint glass over ice and stir thoroughly for a good minute.) Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lime wedge.
Top tip: Wondering what triple sec is? Not got any in the house? Triple sec is an orange-flavoured liqueur, so you could substitute it in your cocktail with Cointreau. Grand Marnier will also work but is slightly less sweet, so your drink will taste tarter than usual.
