On the road with our Gin of the Month: Burleigh's Gin is booming in Leicestershire!
Now that you've tasted Burleigh's (amazing) Gin, why not take a little trip to see where it was made - and make your own gin! Burleigh's, our September 2015 Gin of the Month, is made in Leicestershire, particularly the town of Loughborough just south of the city of Leicester. The 45 West Distillery where it is made has it's own gin school which invites students to learn about the distillation process and experiment with their own botanical blends. So if you’re looking for a fun day out and some amazing gins, swing by and visit Master Distiller Jamie Baxter - a legend in the UK gin industry - and his team. Your tastebuds will be more than happy you did!
Where to distill your own, personalised gin
The 45 West Distillery, where Burleigh’s Gin is made, would love to welcome you to their distillery for a tour, a tasting, and to their Gin School! You’ll leave the gin class with your own unique gin and a personalised label!
Where to get local artisanal food
Burleigh’s is sold at a number of specialty shops and delicatessens around the Leicester area. One of them that features artisanal products from the region is Deli in the Square. Pop in and pick up some nibbles for a picnic in Burleigh’s Wood.
Where to breathe fresh air
Burleigh’s Wood! Right near the 45 West Distillery, this is a wood that will definitely bring you some ginspiration. It’s the wood where Jamie Baxter found the local botanicals that make his Burleigh’s Gin so special - dandelion root, burdock root, elderberry and silver birch.
What music to listen to
Beeza and the Wildcats play a mixture of cover songs and originals in local venues - and Jamie Baxter is their saxophonist. Have a look out in Leicester for their next gig.
Where to learn about local culture
The Loughborough Bell Foundry has been providing the world’s cathedrals and kings and queens with the best bells in the world for nearly 200 years. They’d love to welcome you and show you how the regal music is made.
