You need to try this Irn-Bru and gin cocktail - it is SO delicious!
Yes, you read that title correctly - this amazing cocktail is made with gin and Irn-Bru! That’s right, this surprising duo actually makes for a delicious pair (when handled with care - maybe don’t start replacing tonic with Irn-Bru quite yet).
There is something about that unique Irn-Bru flavour that actually works well with the rich juniper of gin. But don’t take our word for it, give this sophisticated yet easy cocktail recipe a go today!
If you have tried Irn-Bru before then you will know that its flavour profile is hard to pin down. It’s definitely sweet but the actual flavours of that bright orange liquid can be described as fruity, caramel-like and some have even said it tastes a little bit like bubble gum.
That strange yet delicious complexity works brilliantly with the sweet-bitter orange flavours of the Cointreau and the mature berry notes of the Chambord. The gin adds even more complexity and depth, while the touch of fresh lime juice then lifts everything wonderfully.
Garnished with a cherry, to add more luscious berry flavours, it’s a stunning, luxurious serve. And, if you like this cocktail, we have a version of the recipe that uses orange peel to highlight more citrusy notes, right here.
But what gin should I use in this cocktail?
For this cocktail recipe, we recommend Downpour Coast & Croft Gin, Craft Gin Club’s November 2022 Gin of the Month.
Distilled by the North Uist Distillery in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, this gin has a beautiful mix of savoury thyme and pepper dulse flavours that offer a mouthwatering contrast to the sweeter ingredients in this recipe.
