Three top tips for making your gin and tonics even better!
Gin fans know that there is an art to perfecting the humble yet noble gin and tonic.
And, if you have ever read our guide to upping your G&T game then you will know that there are lots of small, easy things that you can do that will make a huge difference to your gin and tonic experience.
In order to delve deeper into our quest to perfect our G&Ts, we have asked the experts at Three Cents Artisinal Beverages, the amazing brand behind the Three Cents Tonic in Craft Gin Club’s June 2022 Gin of the Month box, to give us three of their top tips for taking your gin and tonics to the next level.
Three Cents was founded in 2014 by Dimitris Dafopoulos, George Tsirikos, George Bagos and Vassilis Kalantzis, a group of forward-thinking, award-winning bartenders from Athens in search of the perfect cocktail mixer, so we were very excited to get their thoughts on creating the best gin and tonic. Spoiler: it’s all about maximising those bubbles!
3 top tips for making the perfect gin and tonic:
Tip 1: Keep all of your ingredients as cold as you can!
Three Cents’ first recommendation is to keep all of your ingredients as cold as possible as this helps to keep your G&T more bubbly for longer and, ultimately, more refreshing.
They recommend that you put your gin in the freezer and your tonics in the fridge at least two hours before you use them.
Tip 2: Minimize the number of garnishes in your G&T!
This does not mean dropping your garnished altogether, it just means using fewer garnishes more effectively. The reason for this is that the more garnished you have, the faster your G&T will go flat - and nobody likes a flat G&T!
One way that you can really get the most out of your garnishes is by using the oils in the skins of your citrus fruits. Three Cents recommend spraying them on top of your drink by squeezing the citrus skin over your G&T for maximum aroma.
Tip 3: Pour your tonic carefully!
The slower you pour your tonic, the more bubbles you retain, making your G&T experience far more delightfully crisper and refreshing.
A pro-pouring tip from Three Cents is to aim for the gaps between the glass and the ice!
There you have it, three top tips for getting the most out of your gin and tonics.
All that’s left is for you to try them out and we know just the recipe: Craft Gin Club’s June 2022 Perfect G&T! It pairs Three Cents Tonic with Astraea Spirits Meadow Gin and a gorgeous garnish duo of grapefruit slices and allspice.
