The Twilight’s Last Gleaming
The visually stunning three-tone effect in this cocktail is created using crushed ice and different coloured tipples. At the bottom, there is grenadine, a pomegranate syrup that has a luscious red colour and a beautiful mix of sweet and tart flavours. You can buy grenadine in the Craft Gin Club online shop by clicking this link.
The white middle portion of the cocktail is made with orgeat syrup and fresh lime juice. What is orgeat syrup? Orgeat syrup is an almond syrup and you can find out how to make your own in the recipe below (it’s really easy!).
Last but definitely not least is the blue layer, which is created by mixing butterfly pea flower powder with Chemist American Gin, which turns it a gorgeous blue colour.
Together, the flavours in each layer of this surprisingly simple cocktail are absolutely divine. The pomegranate and almond notes of the syrups complement the rose, spice and citrus tones of Chemist American Gin wonderfully, and the lime juice then elevates the whole experience with its bright, zesty fragrance.
10ml grenadine
15ml orgeat (almond) syrup
30ml lime juice
60ml butterfly pea flower-infused Chemist American Gin
To make the orgeat syrup: Add 100g of ground almonds to 300ml of Simple Syrup and leave the mixture to rest for at least two hours, then strain twice: first through a sieve, and then through a coffee filter or muslin. Add the orange blossom water for a floral flourish. The syrup will keep for two weeks in the fridge.
To make the butterfly pea flower-infused Chemist American Gin: Add ½ tsp dried butterfly pea flower powder per 250ml gin. Allow them to infuse for at least an hour.
Using a chilled Collins glass, pour in the grenadine and let it settle at the bottom of the glass. Next, carefully fill your glass with crushed ice. Add in the orgeat syrup by carefully pouring it over the crushed ice. Repeat this step with the lime juice and the butterfly pea flower-infused gin. Serve with a reusable straw. Sparklers encouraged, but optional!
