Who is the owner of WhataHoot? How is WhataHoot Hushwing Gin made?
The WhataHoot distillery is founded by the husband-and-wife team, Jason and Nicky Crown. Jason and Nicky were Craft Gin Club members before deciding to become distillers and wanted to create in Hushwing Gin a tipple that they knew other Craft Gin Clubbers would enjoy.
Through the WhataHoot gin school, they began to learn which botanicals gin fans enjoyed in their gins most. From that research, they decided to use botanicals like grapefruit peel, bitter orange peel, pink peppercorn and cassia.
They also wanted to give Clubbers a gin with a distinctly Norfolk character. And so they chose local sea samphire (pronounced “sam-fer” in the local accent), to give the gin a uniquely Norfolk touch.
Those botanicals are distilled together and bottled in glass bottles with a feather design in the glass to represent the “hushwings” (barn owls) they have come to associate Norfolk with so much.
