Blue Lagoon cocktail origin:
The Blue Lagoon cocktail was invented at Harry’s New York Bar at some point in the 1960s or early 70s by noted bartender, Andy MacElhone.
Interestingly, Andy MacElhone is the son of famed mixologist Harry MacElhone who is credited with inventing a number of cocktail menu mainstays, including the White Lady, the Sidecar and even the Bloody Mary.
What is the Blue Lagoon made of?
The traditional Blue Lagoon cocktail is made with three key ingredients: vodka, Blue Curaçao and lemonade.
They are included at a ratio of one part vodka to one part Blue Curaçao and four parts lemonade. The Blue Lagoon is then garnished with a cherry and a slice of fresh lemon. You can find our classic Blue Lagoon cocktail recipe here!
This version of the Blue Lagoon swaps the vodka for a very special gin: Cascave Stormy Gin, Craft Gin Club’s January 2024 Gin of the Month.
This remarkable craft gin comes from Wales and is a symphony of citrus, spice and rich juniper tones that add layers of complexity and deliciousness to the recipe.
In our Blue Lagoon recipe, we also swap out the Blue Curaçao liqueur for Craft Gin Club’s Blue Lagoon Cocktail Syrup, which has been created specifically for this recipe by the experts at Craft Gin Club and brings its own rich medley of tropical citrus and fruit flavours.
It just works so well with the gin and lemonade, and it makes the cocktail easier than ever to make at home.
Why is the Blue Lagoon cocktail blue?
The Blue Lagoon cocktail is blue because it is made with an ingredient called Blue Curaçao which has a vibrant dark blue colour.
Craft Gin Club’s easy twist on the classic Blue Lagoon recipe gets its blue colour from our bespoke Blue Lagoon Cocktail Syrup.

Let’s take a closer look at Craft Gin Club’s Blue Lagoon ingredients:
Cascave Stormy Gin
This remarkable craft gin has been created by the Wales-based Cascave Gin, which was founded by and is still run by Julie Davies and her daughters, Naomi and Heidi.
It is made with botanicals like orange, lemon and pink peppercorns to give it a wonderfully light zesty palate, which contrasts deliciously with the earthy, dark juniper to give you a “stormy” gin, that is like nothing else. It’s a must-try!
Heartsease Farm Traditional Lemonade
Crafted by Heartsease Farm in Wales, this sunny lemonade is citrusy and brimming with authentic lemon flavours. It’s made with Sicilian lemons and Radnorshire spring water, which combine to give you a remarkably pure, zesty and sweet lemonade that’s second to none. It’s the perfect partner for Cascave Stormy Gin in this Blue Lagoon cocktail recipe.
Craft Gin Club’s Blue Lagoon Cocktail Syrup
Made by the experts at Craft Gin Club, this gorgeous blue cocktail syrup is brimming with incredible tropical flavours that will transport you to sunnier climes. It’s the perfect way to round out the lemonade and gin in this Blue Lagoon recipe, while also adding lots of flavour.
Cascave Stormy Gin is also fantastic with Double Dutch Cranberry & Ginger Tonic in Craft Gin Club’s January 2024 Perfect G&T. Check it out here…
