We are super excited here at Craft Gin Club to announce the winners of the UK’s first ever Big Gin Awards!

Following another booming year for gin in the UK and across the world, we set up the Big Gin Awards to celebrate all things gin.

We wanted to shine a light on both the nation’s amazing small-batch craft gin producers and the growing community of British gin lovers, especially our wonderful Craft Gin Club members, who have helped crown this year’s winners!

As part of our selection process, we tasted over 600 gins here at Craft gin Club (it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it!), from which we chose just twelve of the very best gins to send to our 70,000 members in our gorgeous Gin of the Month boxes.

The eventual winners have now been crowned by Craft Gin Club members! So who were the overall winners?

The star of our Gin of the Month box for June 2019 and now, the winner of the Best Gin of 2019 title at the Big Gin Awards, Nelson’s Gluggle Jug Gin hails from Nelson’s Gin Distillery in Staffordshire.

Neil Harrison, founder of Nelson’s Distillery, reacted with joy to the news, saying: “How unexpectedly marvellous! We couldn’t be happier!”

The Big Gin Awards also included some unique lifestyle categories, including best ‘ginecdote’ and ‘best ginstagram’. These categories were shortlisted by a ginfluencer panel including ex-Dragon and Craft Gin Club board member Sarah Willingham, gin specialists and Sunday Brunch regulars, Joel Harrison and Neil Ridley, influencers Jenna Roberts, Gemma Metcalfe-Beckers and Vickie Neave as well as Gin To My Tonic founders Emira Shepherd and Paul Hudson-Jones. The public then voted for their favourites.

Our Craft Gin Club co-founder, John Burke, said: ‘’We are extremely happy to announce the winners of 2019’s Big Gin Awards.

“The standard of the product categories is second to none, and our team is proud to award Nelson’s Gluggle Jug the title of Best Gin which featured in our June box.

‘’The volume of nominations in the publicly judged categories prove the passion and support present within the craft gin community and we loved seeing how creative our members can be.

‘’We hope that the Big Gin Awards 2019 marks the start of an annual event in the gin world, evolving year on year, as we do.’’

Former Dragon from the BBC’s Dragon’s Den and Craft Gin Club investor, Sarah Willingham, said: ‘’Being part of the Big Gin Awards has been a gin-credible experience.

The opportunity to identify and appreciate trends as they emerge has been an honour, and the success of 2019’s awards is a true reflection of the exciting, consumer-focused gin industry.

Cheers to next year’s awards!’’
