7 'Dahlicious' cocktails for celebrating Roald Dahl Day
Today we're celebrating 100 years of one of our all-time favourite storytellers - Roald Dahl! His Mr. Willy Wonka has inspired our own Golden Ticket prize and so to pay tribute, we've gathered up a splendiferous list of fantabulous gin cocktails inspired by some of his greatest works. So have scroll, find your favourite book, and raise a gloriumptious glass of gin to Mr Dahl!
The BFG
Right after the BFG comes our next favourite giant: a gin giant! And don't worry, no snozzcumbers here.
Green Giant
Recipe from Liquor
55 ml Gin
20 ml Simple syrup
8 Tarragon leaves
15 ml Dry vermouth
20 ml Lemon juice
4 Sugar snap pea pods
Method:
In a shaker, muddle the pea pods, tarragon and simple syrup.
Add the remaining ingredients and fill with ice.
Shake, and fine-strain into a frozen rocks glass filled with crushed ice.
Garnish with 2 sugar snap pea pods.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
A drink so delightfully delicious, you'd think Willy Wonka himself crafted it.
Ramos Chocolate Fizz
Recipe from Difford's
45 ml Dry gin
45 ml Creme de cacao
3.8 ml Orange flower water
3.8 ml Vanilla extract
1 Fresh egg white
30 ml Single cream
30 ml Champagne
Method:
Hard shake first 6 ingredients without ice.
Shake again with ice and fine strain into chilled glass.
Top with champagne slowly poured into glass from a height to create thick foamy head.
Dust with chocolate truffle flakes.
James and the Giant Peach
Some sweet sugar and regular-sized peaches make this tasty tipple that'll take you own your own adventure - through flavour!
Peach Gin Fizz
Recipe from Girl on Bloor
Half medium-large peach, skin removed and pureed
(reserve 55 ml puree for each glass)
Handful of ice
85 ml gin, divided
230 ml sparkling water, divided
Peach slices for garnish
Thyme sprigs for garnish (optional)
Method:
In a blender, puree half a peach, skin removed.
Strain two or three times using a fine mesh sieve to remove as much pulp as possible.
Add a handful of ice to two glasses, then add 55 ml of the peach puree to each.
Add half the gin and half of the sparkling water to each glass.
Garnish with peach slices and thyme sprigs.

Inspired by the wonderful Miss Honey, this drink is just as sweet as she.
Honey Bubble
Recipe from Difford's
2 Tbsp Runny honey
30 ml Dry gin
Prosecco sparkling wine
Lemon twist (to serve)
Method:
Stir honey with gin in base of shaker until honey dissolves.
Add other ingredients, shake with ice and strain into ice-filled glass.
Garnish with lemon twist.
Witches
A berry as black as the hearts of the Witches of England gives this cocktail it's dark colour - and delicious flavour.
Witches' Cocktail
Recipe via Nigella Lawson
45 ml Dry gin
150 ml Tonic water
1 Splash of creme de cassis
Blackberries (to serve)
Method:
Combine creme de cassis and dry gin in a glass, top up with tonic water.
Drop in some ice cubes and garnish with Blackberries before serving.
Fantastic Mr Fox
Boggis, Bunce and Bean may be a dull and dim-witted trio, but this drink is far from plain!
Farmer's Cocktail

30 ml Gin
15 ml Dry Vermouth
15 ml Sweet Vermouth
2 Dashes Bitters
Method:
Stir with ice and strain into glass and serve.

Snapping Turtle

55 ml Gin
20 ml Elderflower liqueur
20 ml Lemon juice
2 dashes of Bitters
Method:
Combine ingredients, shake on ice, strain into a glass, garnish with a lemon twist.
