Try this amazing Spanish twist on a Negroni - meet the Marianito!
Here at Craft Gin Club, we love a negroni. So anything that is inspired by the classic cocktail recipe has got us listening...
The Marianito cocktail originates from Spain and is said to be their sister to the Negroni. The Marianito cocktail recipe combines sweet vermouth, gin, Campari, and bitters, and is often served up or over ice.
It has different ratios compared to a Negroni - in this stunning sip, sweet vermouth takes centre stage. What is a sweet vermouth, you may ask? Sweet vermouth is a fortified wine that has been aromatised with botanicals. It is also sometimes called red vermouth (vermouth rosso) due to its colour.
The cocktail is believed to have been born in Bilbao, Northern Spain, and is often enjoyed on Sundays as an aperitif. Soaking up the sun in Spain with this delicious tipple in hand? Count us in!
If you love a vermouth-based cocktail, this one is a must-try. Plus, it’s a simple recipe, so you’ll be able to whip it up in seconds.
Marianito
50ml Sweet Vermouth
10ml Gin
10ml Campari
2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Stir all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass.
Optionally, you can add a garnish of an orange twist and green olive (as the Spanish do!)
