Craft Gin Club Summer Road Trip: Northamptonshire and the UK's favourite gin, Warner Edwards
Summer time = traveling time! What's better than throwing your gear in a suitcase and throwing your work into the dustbin as you leave your stress and troubles far behind in exchange for a sun-filled season of new adventures? We can't think of much - except sipping a cool, craft G&T. But what makes that G&T even better? Drinking it at the distillery where the gin was made!
This summer, we're taking a trip through the regions of our craft distiller partners, the places where they make the delicious, small-batch gins that Craft Gin Club Members enjoy every month.
This past February, the duo behind the Warner Edwards Distillery, Tom and Sion, treated our members to their Harrington Dry Gin. The month prior, Warner Edwards had been voted the UK's favourite gin in a Craft Gin Club poll, a poll that showed the importance of social for small businesses in so much as Tom and Sion were able to motivate their fans to vote for them. Warner Edwards continues to impress with its range of gin today including the much sought after Victoria Rhubarb which is made with a strain of rhubarb that once grew in Queen Victoria's gardens at Buckingham Palace. If you're in the Northampton area, Tom and Sion would love to invite you to the distillery for a tour and a taste!
Where to drink the UK's favourite gin
HOW TO GET YOUR ADRENALINE PUMPING
Northamptonshire is the home to Motorsports Valley and the Silverstone race track. Most of the Formula 1 teams also have their base in the area.
WHERE TO FEEL LIKE ROYALTY
Originally a monastery, Boughton House was bought by a Lord in Henry VIII’s court and transformed into the mansion you’ll find today although it was renovated in the baroque style in the 1700s. Today you can spend the day in Northamptonshire touring the mansion and the gardens.
WHERE TO PUT ON YOUR WALKING SHOES
The popular shoe brand Dr Martens, originally created in Germany until the company that made the patented soles sold to an English firm, has been centered in Northamptonshire since 1960. Visit the factory of the shoe made famous by the likes of Elton John, Pete Townshend and Miley Cyrus.
WHERE TO TAKE A COUNTRY STROLL
The Warner Edwards Distillery sits on Falls Farm where Tom and Sion continue to keep cattle and sheep throughout much of the year. You can walk around the ground which used to be an old manor house with terraced gardens and fountains of which you can see the remainder in the above image.
