7 d-electable cocktails to celebrate your vote this Election Day

With suspense hanging over the Kingdom today as voters decide on the next government, here’s a collection of cocktails from around the web to mix when you exit the polls. 

Today we vote. Tonight we drink. Tomorrow we might not know what to think. Cheers!

Prime Minister Cocktail

• 1.5 oz Mount Gay Extra Old
• .75 oz Lillet Blanc
• .5 oz Cherry Heering
• 2 dashes bitters

Preparation: Mix in a glass with ice and stir.  Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a twist of lemon

The Parliament

• 45mL blanco Cachaça
• 15mL Fernet Branca
• 25mL fresh lime juice
• 20mL runny honey

Preparation: Shake hard and fine strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Spray with grapefruit oil. Enjoy.

Coalition Cocktail

• 2 oz Whiskey - rye
• 2/3 oz Picon Biere
• 1 tsp Gomme Syrup
• 2 dashes Bitter Lemon (Jerry Thomas' Own Decanter Bitters)

Preparation: Stir all ingredients with ice in a mixing glass. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist.

The Democrat

• 3 parts vodka
• 2 parts ginger liqueur
• 1 part lime juice
• splash of simple syrup
• 2 dashes orange bitters
• club soda

Preparation: Pour ingredients in that order into a rocks filled glass. Stir and top off with club soda.

Suffragette City Cocktail

• 1 1/2 ounce light rum
• 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier
• 1/2 ounce lime juice
• 1/2 teaspoon grenadine

Preparation: Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes and add all the ingredients. Shake until chilled and strain into a cocktail glass.

Monarchy

• 30 ml Bols Genever
• 30 ml Bols Elderflower
• 20 ml fresh Lemon juice
• 10 ml Mint leaves

Preparation: Slap the mint and drop in a tall glass. Add other ingredients and crushed ice and stir. Top up with more crushed ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint and an orange twist.

Cameron’s Kick Cocktail

• 1 ounce Scotch (blended, please — Famous Grouse works well)
• 1 ounce Irish whiskey
• 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
• 1/2 ounce orgeat

Preparation: Shake with ice and strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with orange twist.
